it was really fun actually, one of the most enjoyable netball carnivals i've ever gone through. *nods*
everyone was very enthu...*beams* and we all worked together!! =)
heh. class dinner/lunch was fun too. food was not bad, and quite affordable considering we went to fish and co. yeah?
the korea/turkey match was somewhat unexpected actually. not the results, but the sheer number of goals. i had originally thought that the game was gonna be an extremely boring one, but am now glad that i rushed back just in time to catch the whole of the match. the 1st goal was a shocker, and so were all the rest. every goal was a shock to my poor little heart. and turkey prevailed. congrats to val, xiz, sunny and ad. heh. i was totally neutral, so. =)

Ballack's not playing for the finals?? what the hell man. i so totally hate the bloody referee. pardon my language here, but i think you can guess i'm fuming mad, and practically spouting smoke from my ears. ballack didn't even do anything wrong???? he tripped, and his leg, which happens to be extremely long since he's 189cm tall, extended naturally, and a clumsy korean player tripped over it. he was given a yellow card because the korean player was clumsy??!! oh pul-eeze. *rolls eyes* and not he can't play for the finals, after all the effort he put in?! i mean, it's practically beautiful *beams* ballack who put germany through to the finals. the winner against USA, and the winner against Korea today. what's wrong with the referee man. korea was like so damn rough, always pulling on shirts, and "hugging" the germany players and the referee did nothing about it??? and instead, picked on lovely gentlemanly ballack for nothing??! hell, hell, hell. PLUS i totally do NOT understand why neuville got a yellow card either. he was "diving" according to the referee??? pul-eeze again. please send this referee back to switzerland man. neuville *tripped* and he fell over, and he was "diving"??????? *rolls eyes again* urgh. am so disgusted. and the referee was in the way of the players so many times, but when he was not, he was miles away from the ball, and couldn't see, or rather, chose not to see the numerous fouls korea made on the german players. bet THIS referee was bought over. hah. at least germany still won in the end. but now, i won't get to see ballack play in the next match. *sobz*
life's so unfair. the good aren't rewarded, but punished instead.

heh. everyone's probably gonna kill me for saying this, but yay!!! back to school!!! *grin*
lalala. school's fun. totally. =) so totally slack. today was a classic example of a great school day. sat through eng, chinese, bio, history and ss doing....nothing. it is no wonder then it feels like a holiday in class. had lovely discussions with friends about world cup, which is the only thing we seem to talk about these days. ah well.

heh. after being accused of liking football teams just because of their looks, i feel it is pertinent that i make a clarification. *grin*
of cos, the looks are a bonus ili dear. but i indeed do appreciate the game itself. now, i agree that brazil is good, but i just don't like them because of the play-acting thing, and simply because i don't like to support teams that know that they have a chance of winning the world cup. an idiosyncrasy of mine i suppose. rather, i prefer to support teams that play their best so that we can watch a good game of football, and not for the cup itself. an optimist i am.
besides, it really isn't my fault that all the better players happen to be good-looking too u noe. look at ballack, klose, beckham and owen. i mean, no one can deny that they have attained quite a high level of play right? so what's the harm in liking them? *beams*
right. that clarified, i must say that i was quite happy korea won. it means a lot to the whole nation - a great boost to all asians as well. the ecstatic look on the korean captain's face was damn touching, don't u think so? that game was a heart-attacking one though. totally did not expect the spanish goalkeeper to miss all of them, especially after his wonderful performance in the match against ireland, where he so totally shone. hmm.

GOD. How could England have lost?
Sigh. It wasn't really Seaman's fault actually, especially the goal in the 47th minute of injury time. I mean, Seaman had just got himself a horrible injury like a few minutes before, and he couldn't have recovered fast enough to prevent that goal. If he had not been injured, he might have been able to save it. And even the other goal in the 50th minute by that horrible and gross looking guy whose name i shall not attempt to spell here, since i'll probably get it wrong, wasn't exactly Seaman's fault either. I persist in my theory that he was not in his full form today because of the collision he had earlier. Sigh. Perhaps Sven should have substituted a goalkeeper. =( Poor Seaman. Was crying after the match. He's probably gonna blame himself for the rest of his life...
If only the referee had given beckham or scholes a penalty kick, England might have been able to equalize. really thought england had a chance after the owen goal. what's worse was that the 1st goal by brazil was during the extended injury time. and that 4 minutes was given because of 3 england players injuried. ironic isn't it. to be defeated because time was extended because of one's injury? hell, i'm rambling away. shall go down to catch the Germany-US match in 35 mins. *whispers weakly: go germany...*

Yes, yes!!! *jumps up and down excitedly* England just won 3-0 against Denmark!!! Oh my. This was unexpected. From their past few performances, i hadn't expected them to win so convincingly. Nevertheless, my faith in them never faltered. Heh.
Who knows? If England meets Belgium instead of Brazil in the next round, England could have a chance at the title. Then again, what are the chances of Brazil not winning the next round? *sigh*

hmm. haven't finished the book 1984 yet. but just wanted to reflect on something i read.
War is peace
"In a world in which everyone worked short hours, had enough to ear, lived in a house with a bathroom and a refrigerator, and possessed a motor-car or even an aeroplace, the most obvious and perhaps the most important form of inequality would already have disappeared. It was possible, no doubt, to imagine a society in which wealth, in the sense of personal possessions and luxuries, should be evenly distributed, while power remained in the hands of a small privileged caste."
However, if such a situation like the above should exist, it would also mean that a large number of people in the country would receive a good education, become literate, and can think for themselves. They would then realise that "the privileged minority had no function". Attempts would then be made to sweep this minority away, and in the process of doing so, create chaos and disorder, i.e. NO peace.
War then comes in as a solution to this problem. Here, the "essential act of war is destruction, not necessarily of human lives, but of the products of human labour", in which materials that might make the masses too comfortable, or too intelligent, would be destroyed in the process of war. The chaos and disorder that might result from overthrowing of the privileged minority would not be present here, and PEACE can be achieved. Thus, War = Peace.
A dangerous thought, but true to a certain extent. Though on hindsight, it's not true. How many developed countries today live in chaos? Practically none. Rather, it is the poorer 3rd world countries we see that are suffering from myriad problems, including attempts on the usurping of the government.
Nevertheless, an interesting read.

dammit. france is out. the champions are defeated. *groan* i am surprised. no..it's more than that. stupefied. speechless. stunned.wth. synonyms for shocked - "be unexpected; come unawares; turn up, pop, drop from the clouds; come upon one, burst upon one, flash upon one, bounce upon one, steal upon one, creep upon one; come like a thunder clap, burst like a thunderclap, burst like a thunder bolt; take by surprise, catch by surprise, catch unawares, catch napping". i'm all that and more.
i cannot believe they did not score ONE goal at all throughout the whole world cup. it's so disappointing!! *sniff sniff*
and zidane was so not in his top form. was wincing away throughout the whole game. sigh. *shakes head* worse still...they didn't even lose 1-0. they had to lose 2-0. this is a major disaster. =(
ah well. as much as i support france, am happy for denmark too. it's always nice when the less well-known players get a boost to their ego by beating the champions. just that...sigh. though i observed denmark didn't look that overjoyed with their win?? i wonder why.

sigh. can't even make it a point to do more work tomorrow, cos i will not be doing work tomorrow at all. aunt's coming over to my house for a mahjong marathon. *grin* am preparing to fill my wallet with lots of money. *beams*

romance
oh wow. my friend was telling me about this amazing thing he saw today, and i totally agree. it's amazing alright. just had to share it here with erm..whoever. *beams*
here goes. my friend was having dinner at Blu... this really nice restaurant at Shangri La... and they have a jazz singer and a pianist... so anyway, halfway through her set, the singer stops and announces that they're having a promotion as part of the world cup, so whoever can answer the qn will get this prize- some ornament that looks like an egg/ soccer ball...
So the qn is "How many games did Dino Zoff play for Italy?"... and this guy raises his hand and says he wants to try... so they call him to the mike and he says 122 times or something which is correct! But when they want to give him the prize he asks whether he can give it to his gf (who's having dinner with him) cos she's been really supportive of him watching all the matches... which is quite sweet right? but there's more to come....
so his gf comes up to the stage, the guy takes the egg thingy, goes down on one knee, flips open the egg- and takes out a ring! then he proposes to her! *sniff*
so of course she says yes, then the singer starts singing, and they bring out flowers and champagne... my god. isn't that the most romantic thing you've ever heard of? awww...

i should feel a modium of guilt, having spent the last three days doing almost nothing. strangely, the guilt isn't there..urgh. went for chalet and bbq yesterday...the highlight of the day being the live match between England and Argentina telecasted on a big screen. i was practically the only person who belonged to the female sex there. *shakes head* In addition, the whole room seemed to be supporters of England. If this is an indication of the Singapore population, indeed, our Singaporeans are smart ones. =) england totally rocked yesterday! [not that they don't usually...but they were supremely amazing in their victory yesterday] beckham rocks! owen rocks more!! *grinses*
ah well. that was yesterday. today...did nothing again. or rather, didn't accomplish what i should have been doing. instead, went to the library, borrowed a large stack of books..quite a variety i must say. thrillers, crime, horror, and *gasp*, even a chinese book! i never fail to amaze myself sometimes. *beams* THEN, proceeded to read the whole day. sigh. still no feeling of guilt. perhaps the guilt only comes when i see my result slip next year? perhaps.
well. it's 10pm now. and have not started on anything, nor am i intending to start on anything. one would think that some form of anxiety should be in place, since mock prelims are..less than 2 weeks away? *rolls eyes* am one very apathetic teenager here. *wrinkles nose* should make some effort to mug more..*sniff sniff*
