deep breaths
ah well. heard some news yesterday that made me depressed.
and actually, wrote a long long blog about it yesterday, but adeline advised me to delete it, so i did. *nods*
i've learnt to take friends' advice now. *nods again*
so. here i am. thinking. well...of course, got cheered up again by nice people around me. *grinses* at least i feel better today...yup.
but also felt much better after taking it out on my piano for 2 hours. it works. it so totally does. especially when u're playing stuff like fantasie impromptu...nocturnes...plus that really really soothing classical piece. "meditation". *grin* i'll never regret taking up the piano, that's for sure. =)
ah well. back to biology. =)

Sesame Street
*grinses*
was watching sesame street while eating lunch today...heehee =)
decided to analyse it here....
ah well.
a harmonious world
well well. the first thing that struck me was the whole harmonious environment they tried to portray.
this was the scenario:
Slimey, a worm [as you can probably tell from the name], was moaning on and on about his only love. a fellow worm. Big Bird comes up to him and tries to cheer him up. Now, the irony might miss you for the first time, but not after i remind you of the saying: "the early bird catches the worm?" ahhh...so u see. in the world of sesame street, this saying is nonsense. worms and birds live in harmony with each other. *grin*
obsessions
ahah! after two consecutive days of sesame street, i have found a pattern that escaped me in my younger days! the producers are quite quite obsessed with the alphabet song! =) they make it a point to sing it at least twice in each episode. of cos, i'm not complaining, since this show was meant for urm...kids under 3? [heehee] but it was just something i noticed. *shrugs*
themes
One thing i loved about sesame street and still love about sesame street would be the wonderful plot in each episode. and no, i'm not being sarcastic here. there really is a plot in each 1hr episode.
For example, in yesterday's episode, Baby Bear was being traumatised over the fact that his father had to leave him in the midst of playing with him. Baby Bear then goes through this whole cycle of depression, suspecting that his Papa Bear doesn't care about him and so on....then at the end of the show, all ends well when Papa Bear calls up Baby Bear and tell him that he loves him. *awwww* =)
In today's episode, it was the "i'm pining for my one and only love" episode...[now we know why kids grow up faster these days...tsktsk..exposed to these kind of stuff at such an early age...*shakes head*] =)
well well. for the sake of literature, i shall make it a point to watch tomorrow's episode as well. *grinses* =)

on mood swings
*grinses* this is really weird coming from the previous entry, but today's such a wonderful day!! for no actual reason, just the way i'm feeling now...life so totally rocks! =)
heh. the song below is really really uplifting. felt like 100 times happier after listening to it. *grin*
L is for the way you look at me - natalie cole
"[L] is for the way you look at me
[O] is for the only one I see
[V] is very, very extraordinary
[E] is even more than anyone that you adore
Love is all
That I can give to you
Love is more
Than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart
And please don't break it
Love was made
For me and you"
lalala. =)

awakenings
well well. it's 2am in the morning now. listening to "voices that care" over and over again. i only do this when i feel depressed. did the exact same thing when we lost to MGS in VCs. did the same thing again when we lost to NYGH in JGs semis. it does have a slight cheering effect, though not much at this particular point in time.
Voices That Care- RI's Batch Song 1999
"Lonely fear lights up the sky
Can't help but wonder why
We're so far away
Then you didn't have a friend
To lend a helping hand
Life can be so strange
But now we're reaching out to you
Doesn't matter who
As long as we are friends
And I won't turn my back on you
Our friendship will be true
And never let it end
Stand tall, stand proud
Voices that care are crying out loud
And when you close your eyes tonight
Feel in your heart how our love burns bright"
hmm..don't you think it's sad to find out that some people you thought you knew aren't really who you thought they were? i think it's sad. and depressing. to know that all along, what you know of them was merely...nothing. that everything you thought u knew about them had totally fallen to crumbs. crumminess is the word to describe these kind of scenarios. absolutely. *sigh* i hope no one ever has to go through what i'm going through right now cos the feeling's just plain awful. of cos, not to that great an extent, but certainly, not something someone would choose to go through. feeling of betrayal is there too. it's just a whole confusing mix of things i'm feeling right now.
BIG thank you to those who tried to cheer me up though. thank you sihong....thank you sunny...thank you gabriel....hmm..that's about it since it's 2.13 am in the morning, and it's amazing that these people are online at all *smile* ur efforts were admirable. i feel SO much better now..[yeah rite] no...but seriously, i DO feel better now compared to 2 hours before. =)

analysis
hmm...read an interesting comprehension passage (e-learning homework) today. It was about the more superior and more intellectually capable gender of the human race - men. [yeah right *grinses*] ah well...it was quite a flawed piece, at least in my opinion, so here's some portions of it...and my...erm...rebuttals?? *smiles*
On whether men CAN have ambitions or not
"Real men, we learn early, are not supposed to have doubts, hopes and ambitions which may not be realised, things they do not (or even especially do) like about themselves, fears and disappointments. Such feelings and concerns are of course, part of everyones inner life, but a man must keep quiet about them. If others know how you really feel you can be hurt, and that is in itself incompatible with manhood."
--> The whole paragraph is absolute nonsense. Times have changed, something the author must not have realised. Perhaps this might have been true in the past, where people of my sex were regarded as decorative objects in the home, to be maintained by male superior. ah well.
--> What's wrong with expressing what you don't like about yourself, or expressing ur hopes and ambitions? doesn't this only prove that you have the confidence to dare point out your own flaws?? tsktsk. what a flawed argument by the author. *hrmph*
-->"If others know how you really feel you can be hurt, and that is in itself incompatible with manhood." *sigh* If others know how you feel, then others can help you right? sheesh. in fact, if one keeps everything to himself, it can also lead to a slippery slope to self-pity, and THAT then would be "incompatible with manhood".
On whether men are competitive
"Obsessive competitiveness also limits the range of communication in male friendships. Competition is the principal mode by which men relate to each other; on one level because they dont know how else to make contact, but more basically because it is the way to demonstrate, to themselves and others, the key masculine qualities of unwavering toughness and the ability to dominate and control. The result is that they inject competition into situations which dont call for it."
--> well well. i can't speak for the whole of the male population, but as far as my minute social circle indicates to be, the above paragraph is again nothing but a waste of space. men are more "competitive" than us? that is so not true/ [*rolls eyes* though i don't know why i'm defending them...] in fact, the tendency for someone of the male gender to agree to a favour, and follow through with it, is like about 1000% greater than someone of the female gender to agree to it, and still, even if she agrees to it, the favour might not ultimately come through...*dramatic sigh* tis sad but true. personal experiences tell me so. ah well. i belong to the self-centred gender. =)
ah well. i'm done with tearing down the author's case. *grinses* any objections?? =)

countdown
101 days to prelims.
172 days to Os.
*sigh* this countdown is getting me stressed. sheesh. and i am NOT mad, contrary to what some people, namely [ahem..nah...shan't mention names here...must give the proper respect to an all-knowing senior *grins* ] would like to believe. a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black, that one. *grins*
sheesh. so many topics to revise! and i was just looking through the tys for physics. i am so dead. totally cannot do the section on magnetic force and stuff like that. *panics* shall go see ms ning soon to clarify...*sigh* i'm so pathetic...*sob*
sigh. having a slight flu and a little feverish now. considering it's 2am in the morning, the time our immune system is most vulnerable, i think i can safely say i'm sick. sheesh. i hate being sick during the holidays, even if my present hols aren't really hols at all. hmm..may not be able to go for geog test tomorrow then. sigh. and to think i spent the past two days studying for it. tsktsk. this is precisely why some advocate procrastination. =)

hmm. went for science quiz training today and learnt inorganic chem. i get the concepts when i'm not trying to copy down what joanna is saying. *grinses* oh well...she went through respiration and photosynthesis today. let's see...i remember...the Kreb cycle! and photosystems 1 and 2! heehee..
went for HC debates after that. met peggy!! *grinses* haven't seen her in such a long time...we all miss her..*sigh*
ah well..we have to organise something soon...if not she'll leave for oxford/cambridge?? and we'll never see her again! but Os are coming....*sob* 174 days to go...=)
ah well. met sihong too, the totally popular guy with thousands of fan clubs all over the world. *long drawn-out sigh* how could anyone be so perfect?? *crosses fingers* how could anyone keep a secret so totally well, without saying a word to ANYONE at all?? *grinses* heehee...well. it doesn't matter now. =) [btw..the whole of the last paragraph was that of a sarcastic tone, if u all didn't notice =) ]
sigh. the debate was....tragic. really. and the results were...unexpected. in the end, acsi, cat high, plmgs and ri got in. but ri was beaten by cat high!! woohoo!! *grinses* [no offence to ri pple out there...no offence meant at all....*grin*]
yay~ i feel so relieved now. managed to resolve a problem of mine. now, am really gonna settle down and study real hard for Os. only 174 days! i can go through with it, i can!!! holidays??
the start of the holidays. or so it seems.
it was supposed to be e-cycle week, but guess what? we had to go back today, on the 1st day of e-cycle for history and a-math lesson, a 3.5hr lesson, may i add. i AM brain-dead now..typing this unconsciously...*sigh*
ahh well. received 3 thick stacks of a-math worksheets, and desperately trying to finish them. plus the whole "stack" of online work to complete before this friday. which the encarta doesn't even mark properly due to some programming problem. argh. am stressed. =)
sheesh. have to go to school tomorrow for science quiz training..not that i'm complaining...it's fun! *grins* have to remember to get something for joanna though...hmm...carn think of what to get for her *sigh* my empty wallet and thoughts of getting a present definitely doesn't go together. *grinses*
just found out hwa chong debates are at 1.45 and 3.45pm tomorrow. *sigh* only will be able to make it for one debate then...it's tragic. oh well..it will be a LEARNING experience, if some people get my drift *grinses* going there to "steal" a few skills from certain people...heehee...=) and i just realised i'll only be able to make it for 1 debate on sat too because of physics training in the morning!! this is really tragic!!! which just goes to show that the arts(debate) and the sciences(science quiz and physics) just CANNOT go together. tsktsk. how true...and how sad....
sheesh. got to go finish up the tons and tons of hw on the internet. how i hate technology.

trashy romance novels
hrmph. just been grossly accused of being a trashy novel fan. so here's a disclaimer: i am NOT a trashy romance novel person. am NOT, k?? *grins* but well...since i've been accused of being one, i should indeed prove why i AM not one. so here's the proof.
senseless plots
indeed, that's why all the plots in these books are. In fact, there's almost a standard way of writing one.
1) The female character meets the guy of her dreams.
2) There's usually animosity at first.
3) They start to realise that they're meant for each other.
of cos...it doesn't end that way. in every plot, what actually happens is that at around the last quarter of the book, just when you think they're gonna live happily ever after, a crisis arises. they have a fight, and break up. *tears*
then..they realise it was all a misunderstanding, and THEN, they live happily ever after. sheesh.
irrelevant to present-day society
as much as i would like to admit to being a romantic at heart, i MUST say that the way of our world today prevents this notion of "living happily ever after". sure, one can indeed be happy with his/her significant other, but conflicts WILL and DO arise at times. tis unavoidable, non? let me hear someone disprove that. *grins*
too good to be true characters
sheesh. now this is really too much to bear. the characters we see in these books are horrendously good-looking?! how often do we see that in real life? huh? sheesh. how...impossible. how...unreal. how..disappointing. *grins* thus, if only they start writing something with more plausible characters, i might just pick a book up and start reading it. but authors never do learn their lessons...
the time factor
ahh..it all boils down to this point actually. even if i was an ardent, dying fan of trashy novels, [which i am NOT], where would i find the time to start on a 400-500 page book? as such, i hardly have enough time to write this blog. sigh.
therefore, as u can see from the above 4 points, i have sufficiently proven my innocence regarding the accusation of myself reading romance novels. [heehee, i love doing this to keep my brain from going rusty *grins*]
oh well. that's all for today folks! come back another time for an possible interesting discussion...*smiles*

what a mess
indeed, that is what my blog is turning into. dunnoe where all these comments are coming from, but oh well, all comments are welcomed. *grins*
hmm..let's see. went for the pathology museum thing yesterday. wasn't gross at all, except for the foetuses part, which were quite disturbing. most of the specimens were just individual organs, like the heart, the lungs, the liver e.t.c, which had cancerous growths. quite interesting i guess, but too little time for each part of the body. sigh. wish i could have stayed there the whole day. =( the foetuses were...i don't noe. rendered me speechless. they had preserved foetuses of conjoined twins, siamese twins, a foetus with 1 eye, a foetus with no organs..u get the idea. it was...it was...hmm. it was an eye-opener, that's for sure. sigh.
went for the JC inter-collegiate debates after that. competition wasn't that strong, in fact, already roughly knew which JCs would get into the semis. Well, RJ lost to VJ by 2 points and therefore failed to get into semis. They lost because the motion was "TH regrets the commercialisation of sports", and the VJ 3rd speaker looked like a swimmer who talked about sports everyday of his life. was damn convincing, and he got best speaker too. cheers to him!
[tis not surprising that RJ lost a SPORTS debate to VJ *grins*]

hmm..let's see. what on earth did i do today? oh yeah. total slack day.

chinese...oh well.
chem was fun! haha. i'm really starting to like this subject. it's very very intellectually stimulating, and i'm sure everyone agrees with me rite?? *grinses*
sigh. getting quite stressed now. it's less than 3 months to prelims, and i'm really freaking out. in fact, i shouldn't even be writing this blog! i should be dedicating my whole life to revision now! [fat hope] that's totally impossible...too idealistic for words. =)
but i've really really got to start MUGGING. if not..i'm so gonna die.
mid-year report books are out. sheesh. not very happy with my results. but it can be considered a blessing in disguise, since it acted as a wake-up call for me. started to panic after i saw those lousy, despicable, torturous results on that white piece of paper. argh.

dremaux sprang a surprise french CA on us today. all the other classes were told, but NO, he had to give it to us as a surprise. and even told us that he did it for our own good, so we won't have to study for it. sheesh. i thought teachers were supposed to ensure that their students DO study. well well..guess that just proves my point that he's actually an alien disguised as a teacher. absolutely. without a doubt. i'm positive. *grin*
well, the french test was absolutely disastrous. couldn't understand anything for listening, couldn't write my essay, couldn't figure out the cloze passage, couldn't figure out the comprehension part - basically, i just couldn't do the whole paper. I'd be lucky to get a pass for this. just hoping i don't get like 10/70 or something. at least a 30 pls?? pls pls??? =)
besides that, day went quite smoothly i guess. chem prac was the usual disaster: unable to identify oxygen gas, can u believe that?! my glowing splint just refused to relight. sheesh. a-math was fun =) we're finally on integration. *sigh* watched this video on abortion during bio, "The Silent Scream". It had quite the ability to affect all of us. saw how they carried out the abortion and stuff like that. a totally gruesome sight. i'm sure everyone in the class is anti-abortion now. just slacked around during geog. as usual =)

some people
woohoo! it's 4pm and i'm actually at home for once!! cheers!
shall do a recount of my past 3 days.
Fri: went for lunch with sunny, ad and val. walked around orchard, avoiding the cineleisure area in an attempt to avoid some people who might be there. *grin*
Sat: went for inphotal. attempted to look like i understood what the lecture was about. it was damn sad. sheesh. went out at night for dinner at LIPS. great food there once again =)
Sun: ORA. debate was....interesting? not considering the fact that my partner POIed me, gave me a definitional challenge and sat down extremely pleased with himself. shall not mention names here because it would be TOO RUDE. *haha* went out with the RI debaters after that, or should i say more like only preetham and raymond, since the rest were just too sociable..NOT. just sat at a corner gossiping to themselves. sheesh. still fuming mad over something which i shall not state here. sheesh.
well then. my anger has not been vented after a week. shall do so on this blog. some people are just unbelievably intolerable. what happened to chivalry? As someone told me: it died. To that, i have to say i totally agree, from the majority of cases i've experienced. Here's a proclaimation: Chivalry is indeed dead and decomposing. it's tragic, but we HAVE to face the truth of the matter.
oh well. anger still not vented. argH!!!!!!
but shall not waste time being angry over something as insignficant as that. *takes a deep breath*

haha...i'm slacking away today..learnt the art of doing so from an expert slacker. *grin*
oh well...waiting for Mighty Ducks to show on TV, so in the meantime, shall do a very very late account of what happened during debate finals.
hmm..well.
Before the debate:
prepped in school...was very scared...broke down actually because i was so scared. afraid that i couldn't handle the definitional challenge well. afraid that i would screw it up for the team. sigh. oh well.
peggy asked sam to get flowers for us. he bought roses for me and michelle, lilies for xiumin [it's our favourite flower each] well..it was very sweet =) [a big thank-you to peggy and sam *grin*]
then sunny and ad came and gave me this really sweet card...awww...was very very touched..thanks guys=)
what followed was a bout of constant nervous laughter...was really really scared...
During the debate:
well..peggy said i did good for reply...noted that she didn't mention my 1st opp speech=)
hmm...could have attacked more. missed out one rebuttal actually. but fortunately ended at 6min on the dot, considering that we were still trying to cut down my speech at the very last min. *phew*
reply was fun!!! went up and did the 3Ps thing...saw that ben [one of the adjudicators] started to laugh when i said that 3Ps had come up in the debate...cos in peggy's year, all of them did that in their speeches, 3Ps, 3Fs...it was probably a poignant reminder to him *grin*
After the debate:
awww...kelvin [tchs debater] was damn sweet...came up to me and told me that he felt we did very well, and that he felt we had won the debate. *awww* [i'm too soft! =)]
haha. we actually knew the results before ben announced it. asked sam to ask the adjudicators for us. but we still were a little unsure..not sure whether he was teasing us or not. but, in the end *grin*
preetham was very sweet...bought a bouquet of flowers for our team...[thank you! *grin*]
well well...glad that quite a few friends got into top 20...congrats everyone! =)
sigh. we didn't go out after the debate though, cos mich and xiu had ss test the next day...still deciding when to go for outing with peggy..shall decide soon...
haha..that's all for the long-overdue update on debate.
sigh. back to training [swimming] now...teacher breathing down my neck already..oh well. *grin*
